The month of May is especially dedicated to Africa and during this month we will see why. Today May 2nd 2018 The African Group in Athens under the Aegis of The Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited African embassies and Honorary Consulates accredited to the Hellenic Republic to join in the “Africa Day 2018 Celebrations” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.
Africa has embraced Greece since time in memorial and this is one of the facts that was pointed out during the event as Greeks arrived in Africa not as colonizers but worked together with the African people. A historical example Mr. Anastasios George Leventis a Greek Cypriot who was sympathetic to the African nationalist cause was honoured with the position of Ghanaian Ambassador to France when Kwame Nkrumah became Ghanaian President. In our very own Zambia, Greeks have become household name brand owners because of their love and understanding of locals but also because of their respect for the culture and nation. Africa’s fast growing economy was also discussed highlighting the enormous potential of investing in African nations. Greece is and has always willingly opened its doors to Africa this collaboration of African countries with Greece is just the beginning.
The Honorary Consul of the Consulate of the Republic of Zambia Ms. Rose Chizi and other dignitaries from other embassies and consulates graced the occasion.
